    These are not my words:

    Friday, January 11:

    BIG WINES, small prices
For many people around the world, wine is an essential part of the daily diet. It provides pleasure in many ways and seems to come with a number of health benefits. It is not necessary to reduce one's expectations of a wine simply because it is less money. Nor does it make much sense to drink less than usual because the wines we are used to cost more. Branch out and explore, you may be surprised at how well you can drink for under $15.

    Friday, January 18th:

    Iberia, Part 1
There are so many choices, this is just where we begin

    Friday, January 25th:

    Oz Pacific Wines
Join us as we welcome Andrew Bishop back to our tasting.

Since I posted this, I'll try to update when I remember...

    Upcoming tastings:

    Friday, December 14th:
    Wines for Celebrations
With the holiday parties in full swing, here are some wines appropriate for the festivities

    Friday, December 21:
    Feast of the 7 Fishes
7 Fishes means 7 wines, right?

    Friday, December 28:
    Informal Bubbly
A few sparklers to think about for the celebration of the new year

Firstly: Don't feel disoriented by the small size of the store; just go downstairs for the tasting.

I went a while ago, and there were about 6 or 7 people. I recall 6 wines offered, which seems to be the norm. They are very serious about their wine, but I've been impressed by their knowledge & passion every time I'm there. The tasting is quite informative, but not exactly a rollicking fun time. One of the two presenters will give a short spiel after each tiny sample is poured. All were delicious, and they're not afraid to sample pricier wines. (They probably don't carry many wines under $20, but one of wines was approx. $65.)

I'm an easygoing fellow, so I thought they were also a bit anal retentive. They had already started a round of tasting, and they wouldn't let me start with the 2nd wine until I tried the first one. That was appreciated in a way, but I would've lived if I didn't try the first wine.

I wouldn't go out of my way for the tasting unless you were in the neighborhood. I would recommend going out of my way, if you wanted to find a wine to impress someone -- or any special occasion -- and you're willing to shell out the proportionate bucks. Again, not all of their wine is expensive. Don't be afraid to ask for a recommendation in any price range. They don't carry anything unless they consider it to be worthwhile.

I'm on their mailing list now, so I got this tasting schedule update recently:

Friday, November 9th: Our very own Jeremy Sells
Jeremy's been on board for a while now, and still hasn't had his own tasting, so here's your chance to see what he really, really likes.

Friday, November 16th: Wines for Feasting (a.k.a. Turkey Wines)
Pretty self explanatory, we offer up some choice selections for the big Feast.

It is a tiny basement in the North End. I actually missed it the first pass and I am familiar with the North End. It is free so take that into consideration when you are given little plastic shot glasses with barely a breath of wine in them. No food or water to help you separate the taste of different wines. Take a look at Boston Uncorked events for reasonable priced wine tasting events in Boston.

Reservations can not be made. It is basically first come first serve. Try to get there early for some of the big tastings, peidmont, tuscany, etc.

When you go, put your name on the email list and they will update you every week on what tastings are happening, and also provide great suggestions, recipes and links.

    Enjoy!

I don't think they accept reservations. I assume they accommodate as many people that can fit...
